2.71 SE-C Installation Tutorial and User guide Before you install make sure you do not have a TA-082 Motherboard!! Attempting to install SE-C with this motherboard will result in a inevitable BRICK!!^^The above is a photograph of a TA-082 Motherboard^^
Installing SE-C:
You must have all of the following to complete the installation:
-A Computer(doesn't matter which OS!)
-A 1.5 or 2.71 SE PSP
-USB cable or memory stick duo adapter
-Any memory stick(32mb or above)
-PSP AC adapter
-A tissue(just in case you get a brick :( :( , jk)
Do you have a mac or linux machine, or windows?
If you have windows, follow "Part 1b". If you have a mac or linux machine use "Part 1a".
Part 1a (Other OS):
1) Download one these 2.71 SE-C Firmware Packs, depending on what firmware you have on your psp right now. Download .rar files below:
For 1.5 UsersUpgrade for 2.71SE Users
2) After you download one of the packs above extract the .rar file and you will see something like the below:
3) Open the "PSP" folder and you will see the "GAME" and "GAME150" folders, depending on if you downloaded the 1.5 or 2.71SE version. If you downloaded the 1.5 version open the "GAME" folder and put the contents of that into your "GAME" folder. If you downloaded the 2.71SE version open the "GAME150" folder and put the contents of that into your "GAME150" folder. Now your folder should look somewhat like this:
4) If your folder looks something like that, skip down to, "Part 2(PSP)"
Part 1b (PC):
1) Download Chaos Zero's Easy SE-C Installer.
-Download:
For 1.5 UsersUpgrade for 2.71SE Users
2) Open Installer program on pc.
3) Select the option that pleases you and continue installation.
Part 2 (PSP):
NOTE: For safety have your AC adapter plugged in at all times during the following steps
1) Go to the game menu and open "2.71 SE-C Firmware Install"
2)You will see a black screen with text reading
You are about to flash your PSP to custom firm 2.71 SE-C.
Press X to start. By doing it, you accept the risk and ALL the responsibility of what happens.
If you don't agree press R button.
3) If you agree, and want to install SE-C press "X"
4)After you press "X" you will see the installer performing a number of checks and then installing SE-C.
5) After a while of waiting, it will display the text to manually restart your psp(do not turn psp off until that text displays)
6) Reboot psp and go into the internet browser
7) A blue screen will appear, wait 5 seconds and press the circle button
8) Set your psp's settings, You have SE-C!!!
How to use(The basics):-Using the Recovery Menu
--To enter the Recovery Menu Restart your psp while holding the "R" trigger.
---Toggle USB
/\-Toggle USB connection with pc(pretty obvious)
---Configuration ->
/\-Various preference options, includes:
-/\-Skipping the SCE logo at startup
-/\-Hiding curropted icons
-/\-Choose between 2.71 or 1.5 kernel. In 2.71 kernel your 1.5 homebrew is loaded from the "GAME150". With 1.5 kernel your homebrew is loaded from your "GAME" folder. However this is not the only difference, in fact this is only a very minute difference. The major difference is in the kernel itself, and today using the 2.71 kernel is recommended by most. The reason for having the 2.71 kernel, is the reason of running devhook off of the flash memory of your psp, and the ability to run IRShell in the correct mode. Changing your 1.5 homebrew to your "GAME150" takes no time at all. All you do is cut your homebrew into the correct folder.
-/\-Autorun Program
-/\-Useing No UMD mode
---Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP
/\-Run the recovery eboot(return to 1.5, use after a brick, or if you don't like SE-C)
Pretty simple, download the recovery here. Put the "RECOVERY" folder in the "ms0:/PSP/GAME/" directory.
---Advanced ->
/\-Advanced configuration ->
-/\-Options on enabling and disableing certain features.
Hint-
I recomend Disabling all of these features for the best compatibility.
The rest:
Options for flashing a few firmware modules ect...
---CPU Speed ->
/\-Not availiable with the current SE-C release :(.
---Plugins ->
/\ -Lets you enable and disable plugins loaded from ms0:/seplugins/
(see questions for more details)
ex.
ms0:\seplugins\capture.prx (Disabled)
ms0:\seplugins\capture.prx (Enabled)
hint, hint.
---Exit
/\-obvious, it exits into the xmb
-Loading ISOs(via XMB)
--Just go into the game menu(you know the place where you load the homebrew?), and your ISO will appear as a homebrew, exept with the corresponding icon and pmf intro movie.
It will display like such:
*If not mentioned in the How to use section, it is most likely the same as 1.5.
Questions?:
1) What does SE-C have that regular old 1.5 doesn't?
Answer: 2.71 SE-C has the ability to load ISOs directly off of the game menu, and the ability to use Devhook! Another plus is that SE-C also has the ability to load all 2.71(HEN), 1.5, and 1.0 homebrew. That's not all, SE-C has a very nice, sophisticated recovery menu that allows you to edit firmware settings and recover from a partial BRICK!! In addition to all of these new things, you can now load PRXs off of your memory stick!
2) Is this safe to install?
Answer: This custom firmware is 99.99% safe to install!! However, if you install with a faulty tutorial or your battery falls out during installation, you may brick! Basically, there is almost no risk!!
3) Can I downgrade from 2.80 or above to use this?
Answer: No, you will not be able to downgrade from any firmware above 2.71!! However, if you wait and be calm someone might make one for you guys;).
4) May I customize this firmware with gameboots ect.?
Answer: Of course, Art has made his customization program, X-Flash, availiable for use on the SE-C firmware! However, one of the cons of SE is that it has a relatively low free Flash0:/ space left.
You can download X-Flash 16g here:
Box.net LinkMediafire MirrorRapidshare MirrorSendspace mirror
5) How do I set up my .txt file in ms0:\seplugins?
-1) Make a .txt file named either GAME.txt or VSH.txt, coresponding to wether you want to use the mod under game or in the xmb ,or both.
-2) Set up your .txt file like the example below(example you put the modules you want!)
ms0:\seplugins\capture.prx
ms0:\seplugins\BrightnessMod.prx
ms0:\seplugins\irsmp3v.prx
Don't know where to find prx modules? Download the SE-C module pack here
-3) Enter Recovery mode and enable
6) One of my homebrews turns up as a corrupted icon, what do I do?
Answer: A few homebrew applications like IRShell and Luaplayer need to be fixed with the 2.71 SE Eboot Fixer. There are only 2 or 3 homebrew applications out there so no worries.
Download the 2.71 SE Eboot fixer here:
Eboot FixerEboot FixerChangelog for SE-C:
- Load of plugins from the ms
- Changes in the HEN core:
* Fixed a bug in the loading of big user prx's, that affected a plain prx of socom2 umd, and some
homebrew prx's.
* Bypassed a crappy $ce protection that prevented the umd to be mounted if the application was run from
the memory stick
* Usb mass storage couldn't be loaded by homebrews in non-devhook version because semawm.prx is sign checked.
HEN now applies the algorithm to reverse the sign check, letting this and the rest of firmware
modules to be loaded by a homebrew.
- Added a SDK for SE-C/HEN-D. (in a separate download)Useful downloads here:PSP Content Manager v1.5
